Houston for the next 5 days…

After school tomorrow, we’re making the forty-minute flight to Houston and I’m pretty excited!  Aside from the daunting hours of testing and fretting about scores and comparing myself to some of my most intelligent peers, I know I’m going to enjoy Academic Decathlon state.  If we don’t take 1st place, then it’s all over.

I really want to go to nationals; discussing it with my team mates, we realize that in order for that to happen we would have to work especially hard.  I have no doubts that we all want to go, but I think the amount of work we need to do is overwhelming for some of us.  I guess that’s also because if we didn’t get to go to the national competition, we’d be okay with it.

So, this is how it’s going to happen: we check in tomorrow evening.  Thursday is devoted entirely to study.  Friday is essay, speech, and interview.  Testing all Saturday morning and afternoon.  Saturday night is ours.  Awards ceremony Sunday morning.

It’s kind of daunting, because we’ve devoted so much time to AcDec this year.  And the scholarship opportunities.

Not to mention, commitments to full orchestra and the extra rehearsal hours.  I didn’t mention it earlier, but TMEA was a lot of fun.

But, I need to get back to work.
